Calcium stearate is a mixture of stearic, synthetic fatty acids and calcium salts. It is a homogeneous powder from white to light yellow. Included in lubricants and surfactants.
It is also the main component of suds, a white solid that forms when soap is mixed with hard water. Unlike soap, which contains sodium and potassium, calcium stearate is practically insoluble in water and does not lather. Soluble in hot pyridine, slightly soluble in oils, insoluble in ether and alcohol.
Commercially available as an aqueous 50% dispersion solution or as a dry powder. As a food additive it is known under the number E470. Non-toxic.
Calcium stearate is obtained by heating a mixture of stearic acid, fatty acids and calcium oxide.
Application area:
– calcium stearate is used as a plasticizer, stabilizer, and surfactant.

– as a water repellent, which, when added to dry systems, provides water-repellent properties of the surface of the hardened solution and prevents its capillary water permeability without reducing air permeability.

Storage conditions: in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition.
